Omnisphere - "instead for this type of synth. Pigments 2 - "is very cool but I went for." SWAM Audio - "is amazing for real instruments, especially Saxophones etc." Synapse audio OBsession "(by far the best Oberheim emulation in software)"Įverything by Madrona Labs (Aalto, Kaivo)

Has a strong Tim Hecker and William Basinski vibe."ĪudioDamage's Quanta: - "some nice sounds I wouldn't pay full price." When I add too much, they tend to get lost in the mix. They sound wonderful when there isn't too much else going on with your music. You can also try it for free."įelt Instruments: - "pretty, delicate sampled sounds. Strobe2: - "similar to Cypher2, but I find most of the sounds less interesting. ROLI Studio Player: - "has some, though not all, of the sounds from its companions Equator, Cypher2, Strobe2, and has some great, easy-to-use elements such as an arpeggiator and chord features." I have more fun playing with them than with any other synths." u/GristForWilliamBligh - made several comparisons between Equator, Cypher and Pigments 2 in addition to talking about SWAM.Īudio Modeling's SWAM - "are ridiculously expensive, but sound so, so good, and are incredibly responsive. Roger Linn maintains a list of MPE VSTs.- "Most offer a free demo" Madrona Labs Aalto - "has a modular interface and a complex oscillator (not really FM, but really cool)!" Zebra3 - "will support MPE also but who knows when it’s coming out." Repro 1/5 - "also phenomenal sound, very good emulation of the Prophet 1 and 5" Hive 2 - "good sound, straightforward interface, low CPU usage"ĭiva - "phenomenal sound, interface mimics classic hardware synths" What are your thoughts? Are there specific pro's and cons of the various synths I should consider? Are there other VST's I should consider?Īre there other communities that focus on MPE stuff on the internet? Content creators/tutorials/etc. I value having tools that inspire me and I'm willing to pay for that. I'd rather not spend that much, but I'm willing to if that's the best fit for me.

I'm comfortable with those prices for something that will be really solid and versatile.Ĭypher 2 is currently $200. Pigments 2 is on sale right now for $100.

With my Roli blocks I get Equator Player which I could upgrade for ~$80. I'm hoping you can help me figure out if that's true and which one might be best for me. From what I've readĪre the best choices for a full featured MPE synth.

Given Roli's unknown future right now, I'm leaning towards Pigments 2.

I'm very interested in learning about FM synths and modular and I'd like some software that can help me figure out if I want to dive into hardware synths. I'd like something that has high quality presets that can be used as is, but will also give me the tools to experiment and learn about sound design. I've got a Lightpad and a Seaboard Block arriving soon and I'm considering buying a synth VST for it but I could use some help making my decision.
